Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said on Wednesday that he was unaware of a secret wiretap order issued against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort last year.
“Did you know about a FISA warrant against Paul Manafort at the time?” CNN’s Don Lemon asked Clapper in an interview Wednesday night.
“I did not,” Clapper replied.
The Obama administration official was asked about his knowledge of the warrant, issued last year under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), because of his denial back in March that the Obama administration obtained any FISA warrants on the Trump campaign.
In a March 5 interview on “Meet the Press,” Clapper said that he would have been aware of a FISA warrant on a member of the Trump campaign, even one granted to the FBI. And asked if such a warrant had been obtained, Clapper directly denied it.
Clapper came under heavy criticism this week after CNN reported that U.S. investigators obtained a surveillance warrant against Manafort at some point before the election in November. The surveillance continued through this year.
The report was interpreted by some as a vindication of Trump’s claim back in March.

Very convenient! Weeks before Obama left the White House, he put new rules that gave the NSA the ability to share information with 16 other intelligence agencies. And Obama don’t do things for no reason. Trump surveillance is the only reason behind his last minute decision. Btw, wonder if Obama is hiding in Tahiti because he’s scared of Trump after his Trump Tower wiretapping scandal.
After Mike Cernovich’s breaking story that it was Susan Rice, former Obama National Security Advisor, who unmasked Trump transition team during Trump Tower surveillance, Fox News is now reporting that the unmasked names of private citizens were spread to many different agencies and given to Dir. of National Intel James Clapper, CIA Director John Brennan and Rice Deputy Ben Rhodes.
Fox News reports:
Multiple sources tell Fox News that Susan Rice, former national security adviser under then-President Barack Obama, requested to unmask the names of Trump transition officials caught up in surveillance.
The unmasked names, of people associated with Donald Trump, were then sent to all those at the National Security Council, some at the Defense Department, then-Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and then-CIA Director John Brennan – essentially, the officials at the top, including former Rice deputy Ben Rhodes.
The names were part of incidental electronic surveillance of candidate and President-elect Trump and people close to him, including family members, for up to a year before he took office.
FELONY! OBAMA OFFICIAL SUSAN RICE ASKED FOR UNMASKING OF TRUMP TRANSITION TEAM DURING OBAMA TRUMP TOWER WIRETAPPING
Susan Rice, Obama’s national Security Adviser, asked for ‘unmasking’ of Donald Trump administration. Leaking it to the media is federal felony.
Rice request for unmasking of Trump transition team is part of Obama’s Trump Tower wiretapping story the liberal media ignore and call as nonsense. Unmasking is not a crime because unmasking names is normal process during intel gathering, but leaking it to the media and making it public – like what happened to General Mike Flynn- what makes it a crime. That is a federal felony.
NOTE: “Unmasking” is the process of identifying individuals whose communications were caught in the dragnet of intelligence gathering.
Mike Cernovich has more on the story at The Medium.
The White House Counsel’s office identified Rice as the person responsible for the unmasking after examining Rice’s document log requests. The reports Rice requested to see are kept under tightly-controlled conditions. Each person must log her name before being granted access to them.
Upon learning of Rice’s actions, H. R. McMaster dispatched his close aide Derek Harvey to Capitol Hill to brief Chairman Nunes.
“Unmasking” is the process of identifying individuals whose communications were caught in the dragnet of intelligence gathering. While conducting investigations into terrorism and other related crimes, intelligence analysts incidentally capture conversations about parties not subject to the search warrant. The identities of individuals who are not under investigation are kept confidential, for legal and moral reasons.

White House lawyers last month discovered that the former national security adviser Susan Rice requested the identities of U.S. persons in raw intelligence reports on dozens of occasions that connect to the Donald Trump transition and campaign, according to U.S. officials familiar with the matter.
The pattern of Rice’s requests was discovered in a National Security Council review of the government’s policy on “unmasking” the identities of individuals in the U.S. who are not targets of electronic eavesdropping, but whose communications are collected incidentally. Normally those names are redacted from summaries of monitored conversations and appear in reports as something like “U.S. Person One.”
The National Security Council’s senior director for intelligence, Ezra Cohen-Watnick, was conducting the review, according to two U.S. officials who spoke with Bloomberg View on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss it publicly. In February Cohen-Watnick discovered Rice’s multiple requests to unmask U.S. persons in intelligence reports that related to Trump transition activities. He brought this t

TRUMP ATTACKS SLEEPY EYES CHUCK TODD FOR CALLING OBAMA WIRETAPPING AS NONSENSE WHILE PUSHING FAKE RUSSIA STORY
Russia is the FAKE NEWS the Democrats and the liberal media are using to cover up the REAL NEWS of Obama surveillance scandal. When sleepy-eyes liberal hack like MSNBC Chuck Todd calls Obama wiretapping scandal as ‘nonsense’, then definitely it’s not. Trump is doing the right thing. Don’t expect the liberal media to stop their bias and fake news. He has to keep on fighting the unhinged haters in the media whose daily job is to follow the marching orders of creating the latest hit piece against Trump.
” You have a presidency right now that I think is, it’s beyond saying it’s in crisis mode, it’s, you know, it’s on the brink, the question is on the brink of what?’ Todd said on MSNBC’s ‘Andrea Mitchell Reports’.
‘Is it on the brink of collapse? Is it on the brink of becoming a temporary lame duck presidency? Maybe it feels lame-duckish temporarily right now.’
Todd then pointed out how Trump had alienated his fellow Republicans with the latest developments.
‘You’ve got a stalled agenda. Republicans who have no fear of this president right now. They don’t think there’s a political penalty to buck him,’ he said.
‘Obviously, the Russia cloud darkens all of the time, and all of these problems right now that they’re dealing with front and center are self-inflicted by one person, the president of the United States who could not help himself but to tweet on this wiretapping nonsense, which of course has essentially helped unravel 10 days of all things Russia in their part of this story.’
- “smoking gun” evidence that “the Obama administration, in its closing days, was using the cover of legitimate surveillance on foreign targets to spy on President-elect Trump.”
( Breitbart by Fox News reports that Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee will be presented with “smoking gun” evidence that “the Obama administration, in its closing days, was using the cover of legitimate surveillance on foreign targets to spy on President-elect Trump.”) James Rosen of
According to the source for Rosen’s report, this evidence will come from the National Security Agency, which is supposed to produce documents for the House Intelligence Committee by Friday. It is expected to take a week or so for congressional investigators to assess these materials.
The NSA material is said to be even more compelling than the evidence that prompted committee chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) to announce on Wednesday that “incidental” surveillance of the Trump transition team was conducted by the intelligence community.
Rosen’s report has a few more interesting developments in the aftermath of Nunes’ announcement:
Because Nunes’s intelligence came from multiple sources during a span of several weeks, and he has not shared the actual materials with his committee colleagues, he will be the only member of the panel in a position to know whether the NSA has turned over some or all of the intelligence he is citing. However, Fox News was told Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., had been briefed on the basic contents of the intelligence described by Nunes.
CIA Director Mike Pompeo is also sympathetic to the effort to determine, with documentary evidence, the extent of any alleged Obama administration spying on the Trump team, sources said.
Fox News suspended Judge Andrew Napolitano, being kept off the air indefinitely after he made a claim that British intelligence wiretapped Trump Tower at Obama’s request.
According to the L.A. Times:
Fox News did not respond to inquiries about Napolitano’s status Monday. Napolitano was conspicuously missing from the network’s coverage of the confirmation hearings on Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch — an event in which he typically would have played a significant role. He has not been on the air since Thursday.
People familiar with the situation who could speak only on the condition of anonymity said Napolitano is not expected to be on Fox News Channel any time in the near future. Napolitano was not available for comment.
But Napolitano said on one program that “Fox News has spoken to intelligence community members who believe that surveillance did occur, that it was done by British intelligence.”
Fox News, however, did no such thing, forcing its anchors to walk back Napolitano’s statement.
“Fox News knows of no evidence of any kind that the now-president of the United States was surveilled at any time, in any way,” Shepard Smith told viewers Friday.
In a statement read on the Fox News program “MediaBuzz” on Sunday, Napolitano defended his comments. He said he “reported what the sources told me, reported it accurately and I do believe the substance of what they told me.”

Infowars obtained NSA documents prove TRUMP electronic surveillance in TRUMP TOWER starting in 2004 until 2010.
Infowars.com have obtained credible information from law enforcement sources regarding individual records of U.S. citizens under National Security Agency (NSA) electronic surveillance in the years 2004 through 2010 – a database that suggests both Donald J. Trump and Alex Jones were under illegal, unauthorized government monitoring during those years.
Michael Zullo, formerly the commander and chief investigator of the Cold Case Posse (CCP), a special investigative group created in 2006 in the office of Joseph M. Arpaio, formerly the sheriff in Maricopa County, an Arizona State Certified Law Enforcement Agency, headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, provided sections of the database to Infowars.com.
The electronic surveillance database, provided to Zullo by a whistleblower in 2013, was apparently created by the NSA as part of the NSA’s illegal and unconstitutional Project Dragnet electronic surveillance of U.S. citizens, first revealed by news reports published in 2005, as further documented by the revelations of whistleblower Edward Snowden in 2013.
Sheriff Arpaio and Chief Investigator Zullo have identified dozens of entries at various addresses, including both Trump Tower in New York City and Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, under which Donald Trump was apparently under NSA electronic surveillance from 2004, during President George W. Bush’s term of office, through 2009, the first year of President Obama’s presidency.
