( Daily Mail ) Two people have been arrested in the quadruple homicide that took the lives of two women and two children in their upstate New York apartment.
Justin Mann, 24, and James White, 38, were arraigned in Troy City Court around 8.30am Saturday after being arrested Friday night. Both men face four counts each of second-degree and one count each of first-degree murder.
According to CBS 6’s Steve Maugeri, both Mann and White have entered ‘not guilty’ pleas. Their preliminary hearings will be held January 4.
Isaiah Smith, 15, who was not home at the time was the sole survivor of the homicide in Troy.
The teenager’s mother Shanta Myers, 36; his brother Jeremiah, 11; and sister, Shanise, five, were found tied up with their throats slashed alongside Shanta’s lesbian girlfriend Brandi Mells, 22, inside their basement apartment on Tuesday by the building’s property manager, reported Spectrum News.
Troy Police Chief James Tedesco revealed at a press conference on Saturday morning that the crime appeared to have been committed around 9pm on December 21 – meaning the victims had been dead for nearly five days.
Additionally, it was revealed that one of the defendants was acquainted with one of the victims but further information could not be given ‘because the investigation is ongoing’.
According to The Daily Beast, Mells was friends with Mann, who has now been charged with killing her and her girlfriend’s family.
NYC terror attack suspect planned assault for weeks, did prior reconnaissance
The Uzbekistan native accused of killing eight people in New York City had been planning his attack for weeks and did prior reconnaissance before he plowed a rented truck into pedestrians along a popular Manhattan bike path, officials revealed Wednesday.
Sayfullo Saipov, 29, was interviewed by investigators at the hospital after his surgery Wednesday, John Miller, NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence and Counterterrorism, said in a news conference. Miller did not reveal what was said, though reports indicated Saipov bragged about the assault and said he was “proud” of the attack. NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill would not confirm the statement.
Days before Tuesday’s assault, ISIS had been encouraging its followers to carry out Halloween attacks with propaganda from the terror group showing a graphic with a blood-splattered machete and Tuesday’s date. SITE intelligence group, which monitors terror activity online, also highlighted a recent photo taken by an ISIS supporter near the scene of Tuesday’s attack; but it remained unclear if there was a connection between that photo and the rampage.

( Daily Mail ) Eight people are dead and 11 have been injured after a truck mounted a bicycle path in lower Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon, mowing down cyclists and runners while shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’.
The 29-year-old driver, named as Uzbek Sayfullo Saipov, mounted the bicycle path at Houston Street at 3.05pm and drove 17 blocks downtown, knocking down victims before coming to a stop at Chambers Street where he eventually crashed in to a school bus.
There were two children and two adults inside the bus at the time. They are among the 11 injured people now in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
After coming to a stop in his rented Home Depot truck, the terrorist then emerged from waving a paintball gun in one hand and a pellet gun in the other.
He was shot in the stomach by an on-duty NYPD officer who was at the scene and is now in hospital under police supervision.
At a press conference at Police Plaza later, New York Mayor Bill De Blasio condemned the attack as a ‘cowardly act of terror’.

STILLWATER, N.Y. — The mayor of Stillwater, New York, has resigned following his arrest on child pornography charges.
According to the Times Union, Deputy Mayor Frank Tatum is serving as acting mayor of the village following Rick Nelson’s arrest.
Nelson could not be reached for comment.
Tatum says in a statement that the village “will continue to move forward” despite the “incredibly difficult” situation.
NBC New York reports:
Yonkers police are investigating the incident and they say it could have been the work of juveniles overnight. They also say there is a possibility it could be fallout from the deadly protests and counter-protests over a Confederate statue in Charlottesville, Virginia earlier this month.
Those protests have led to calls for more public tributes to be removed, including a push in New York City to remove the Columbus Circle statue in light of the figure’s oppression of Native Americans.
“We can’t just desecrate a monument to them just because you don’t like what they did,” Gamberdella said.
One woman believes the statue should have been removed. However, she doesn’t believe it should have been done by vandals.
