NYC terror attack suspect planned assault for weeks, did prior reconnaissance
The Uzbekistan native accused of killing eight people in New York City had been planning his attack for weeks and did prior reconnaissance before he plowed a rented truck into pedestrians along a popular Manhattan bike path, officials revealed Wednesday.
Sayfullo Saipov, 29, was interviewed by investigators at the hospital after his surgery Wednesday, John Miller, NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence and Counterterrorism, said in a news conference. Miller did not reveal what was said, though reports indicated Saipov bragged about the assault and said he was “proud” of the attack. NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill would not confirm the statement.
Days before Tuesday’s assault, ISIS had been encouraging its followers to carry out Halloween attacks with propaganda from the terror group showing a graphic with a blood-splattered machete and Tuesday’s date. SITE intelligence group, which monitors terror activity online, also highlighted a recent photo taken by an ISIS supporter near the scene of Tuesday’s attack; but it remained unclear if there was a connection between that photo and the rampage.

Eyewitness to NYC truck attack says alleged suspect “sprinted toward the group of kids” after crashing onto bike path and hitting school bus
( Daily Mail ) Eight people are dead and 11 have been injured after a truck mounted a bicycle path in lower Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon, mowing down cyclists and runners while shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’.
The 29-year-old driver, named as Uzbek Sayfullo Saipov, mounted the bicycle path at Houston Street at 3.05pm and drove 17 blocks downtown, knocking down victims before coming to a stop at Chambers Street where he eventually crashed in to a school bus.
There were two children and two adults inside the bus at the time. They are among the 11 injured people now in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
After coming to a stop in his rented Home Depot truck, the terrorist then emerged from waving a paintball gun in one hand and a pellet gun in the other.
He was shot in the stomach by an on-duty NYPD officer who was at the scene and is now in hospital under police supervision.
At a press conference at Police Plaza later, New York Mayor Bill De Blasio condemned the attack as a ‘cowardly act of terror’.

STILLWATER, N.Y. — The mayor of Stillwater, New York, has resigned following his arrest on child pornography charges.
According to the Times Union, Deputy Mayor Frank Tatum is serving as acting mayor of the village following Rick Nelson’s arrest.
Nelson could not be reached for comment.
Tatum says in a statement that the village “will continue to move forward” despite the “incredibly difficult” situation.
NBC New York reports:
Yonkers police are investigating the incident and they say it could have been the work of juveniles overnight. They also say there is a possibility it could be fallout from the deadly protests and counter-protests over a Confederate statue in Charlottesville, Virginia earlier this month.
Those protests have led to calls for more public tributes to be removed, including a push in New York City to remove the Columbus Circle statue in light of the figure’s oppression of Native Americans.
“We can’t just desecrate a monument to them just because you don’t like what they did,” Gamberdella said.
One woman believes the statue should have been removed. However, she doesn’t believe it should have been done by vandals.
SORE LOSERS RALLY IN NYC WANT AN 1892 CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS STATUE REMOVED…PATHETIC LIBS, GET A LIFE!
Christopher Columbus statue was offered as a gift to New York by the city’s Italian community in 1892. Now the sore losers are on rampage and want the statue gone. The NYC left-wing nutty mayor Bill De Blasio also put the statue under review as ‘symbol of hate.’
Groups such as the NYPD Columbia Association, which includes thousands of Italian American police officers, are fighting to keep the statue in place.
Comedian Joe Piscopo also spoke out about leaving the historical monument right where it is at the rally attended by politicians, individuals and community groups
‘The one iconic symbol for Italian-Americans was Christopher Columbus. He’s flawed, we’re all flawed — hey, I’m flawed. Does that mean I’m not gonna get a rest stop named after me on the Jersey Turnpike?’ he said. ‘Stop the political correctness. The political correctness is killing us.’
From Daily Mail :
A rally was held in New York by those who wish to see the removal of a statue of Christopher Columbus from where it has stood since the 1800’s.
The statue is currently under review by a special task force implemented by Mayor Bill de Blasio designed to remove ‘symbols of hate’ in New York City.
Friday night, demonstrators took to Columbus Circle where the statue is prominently displayed in a busy round-about at the base of Central Park, carrying signs that read: ‘Columbus didn’t discover America he invaded it.’
