Melania Trump’s inaugural gown is now part of history at the Smithsonian. The First Lady donates gown she wore to 2017 inaugural balls to First Ladies Collection.
WASHINGTON (ABC7/WJLA) — Months after its debut, First Lady Melania Trump’s inaugural gown is still a focal point. Mrs. Trump spent Friday morning donating the gown to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History to be used in an exhibit.
“It can be a daunting task to choose an outfit that will be mesmerized and become part of our nation’s story,” the first lady said in front of a crowd at the museum.
A daunting task, that Mrs. Trump says, she didn’t take on until about two weeks before her husband’s inauguration.
“First, she sends me a text message and she said, ‘Hi, it’s Melania Trump. Can I call you?’ And I was like, I looked at my phone and I couldn’t believe it,” said Herve Pierre, who designed the dress in collaboration with the first lady.
Pierre, who had never met the first lady before, said he had 11 days to complete the gown.
“Unfortunately, this is not an event that you put fabric in a microwave and 30 seconds later you have a dress. So, it was a little bit… we all worked together,” he said.
MELANIA TRUMP IS WAY BETTER THAN MICHELLE OBAMA: CUTS PAYROLL BUDGET IN HALF, ONLY 4 STAFFERS INSTEAD OF 16
Melania Trump has cut the first lady’s office payroll in half. With only four staffers instead of 16, the payroll budget got slashed from $1.24 million to $486,700 a year.
High-maintenance Michelle Obama had at least 16 assistants that cost American taxpayers $1.24 million a year. When she went to Africa with her friends and family members, Michelle listed her daughters Malia and Sasha as “senior staffers” to justify the expensive getaway.
FOX News reported:
Melania Trump is embracing a more active and public schedule as first lady – but she still runs one of the leanest East Wing operations in recent history.
According to a Fox News analysis of White House personnel reports, Melania Trump has significantly reduced the number of aides on the first lady’s office payroll in comparison to her predecessor, Michelle Obama.
During then-President Barack Obama’s first year in office, 16 people were listed working for Michelle Obama, earning a combined $1.24 million a year.
This year, just four people were listed working for Melania Trump as of June. Their salaries totaled $486,700.
TRUMP WIVES AT WAR! MELANIA HITS IVANA ON ‘FIRST LADY’ COMMENT: ‘ATTENTION SEEKING AND SELF-SERVING NOISE’
Ivana Trump: ‘Melania is there and I don’t want to cause any kind of jealousy or anything like that because I’m the first Trump wife. I’m the first lady, OK?’
Melania Trump: ‘There is clearly no substance to this statement from an ex. Unfortunately only attention seeking and self-serving noise,’ the statement from spokesman Stephanie Grisham reads.
( Daily Mail ) The turmoil in the West Wing was briefly eclipsed by feuding in the East Wing on Monday, as first lady Melania hit out at the president’s ex, Ivana.
The president’s first wife stirred up controversy this morning, when she spoke about her close relationship with her ex in an interview on Good Morning America to promote her new book, Raising Trump.
Ivana said she speaks to the president about once every two weeks, and even has a direct number to the White House, but doesn’t use it because she doesn’t want to cause any issues between the president and Melania.
‘Melania is there and I don’t want to cause any kind of jealousy or anything like that because I’m the first Trump wife. I’m the first lady, OK?’ she said.
That comment clearly infuriated the real first lady, who quickly issued a statement through her spokesman, which called Ivana – the mother of Trump’s three eldest children – an ‘attention seeker’.

TRUMP AND MELANIA MET LAS VEGAS MASSACRE VICTIMS, POLICE AND FIRST RESPONDERS, INVITE VICTIMS TO THE WHITE HOUSE
( Daily Mail ) President Donald Trump said Wednesday that meeting Las Vegas doctors and the mass-shooting survivors they have been treating made him ‘proud to be an American.’
And he revealed that he invited many of them to visit him at the White House.
‘I just met some of the most amazing people,’ he told reporters at University Medical Center. ‘We met patients that were absolutely terribly wounded.’
‘I invited a lot of them over to the White House,’ he added.
‘I said, “If you are ever in Washington, come on over to the Oval Office.” And they’re all saying, “We want to do it! How do we do it?”‘
‘And believe me, I’ll be there for them.’
In a short speech before returning to Washington, the president said ‘America is truly a nation in mourning’ following the mass-murder-suicide that killed nearly five dozen.
He praised police and first responders who ran toward the danger even as civilians were fleeing.
‘In the depths of horror, we will always find hope in the men and women who risk their lives for ours,’ he said.
And intoning the name of one officer who was killed in the line of duty, he said: ‘The example of those whose final act was to sacrifice themselves for those they loved should inspire all of us to show more love every day for the people who grace our lives.’
