TRUMP TODAY: ELIMINATE FUNDING OF NPR & PBS, WANTS $1.5 BILLION BUDGET FOR WALL, CUT BUDGET OF STATE DEPT., EPA AND HUD
( Daily Mail ) Trump wants $1.5 BILLION for the wall and cash for the military but will slash foreign aid and eliminate funding for PBS and NPR in budget designed to infuriate liberals.
- Trump will release a budget blueprint today that makes cuts to discretionary spending to fund his border wall and the military build-up he’s been promising
- State Department is cut deepest with a 28% reduction to its foreign aid division
- The Environmental Protection Agency and the Housing and Urban Development Department are also expected to suffer
- The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which provides support to NPR and PBS, will see its funding phased out
- Trump’s budget may not make it past the House and Senate – a top Republican has said it’s ‘dead on arrival’
- Dramatic cuts make way room for $1.5B for his wall with Mexico in 2018 and $54 billion for defense without adding to the federal deficit
TRUMP JUST DESTROYED OBAMA’S EPA CLEAN WATER RULE: the job killer has nice name, but everything else is bad’
- “The Clean Water Act says that the EPA can regulate navigable waters, meaning waters that truly affect interstate commerce. But a few years ago, the EPA decided that navigable waters can mean nearly every puddle or every ditch on a farmer’s land, or any place else that they decide,”
- “It was a massive power grab. The EPA’s regulators are putting people out of jobs by the hundreds of thousands
( The Hill ) President Trump signed an order Tuesday directing the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to formally reconsider former President Barack Obama Clean Water Rule.
The executive order is an opening shot by Trump against the EPA, which was a frequent target of criticism from Republicans for alleged overreach under Obama’s tenure.
It’s the first step toward repealing the 2015 water rule, which asserted federal power over small waterways like wetlands and streams for the purposes of controlling pollution under the Clean Water Act. Trump promised on the campaign trail to repeal the regulation.
“It’s a horrible, horrible rule. Has sort of a nice name, but everything else is bad,” Trump said at a White House signing ceremony, surrounded by Vice President Pence, first lady Melania Trump and top opponents of the regulation, including newly installed EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt, Sen. Jim Inhofeer (D-N.D.) ,Sen. Heidi Heitkamp and Rep. Bob Gibbs (R-Ohio.).
Farmers, homebuilders and county commissioners were also present.
“The Clean Water Act says that the EPA can regulate navigable waters, meaning waters that truly affect interstate commerce. But a few years ago, the EPA decided that navigable waters can mean nearly every puddle or every ditch on a farmer’s land, or any place else that they decide,” Trump said before signing the order.
“It was a massive power grab. The EPA’s regulators are putting people out of jobs by the hundreds of thousands.”
TRUMP: ‘I DON’T NEED INTELLIGENCE BRIEFINGS EVERYDAY’ BUT ON-CALL AT ‘ONE-MINUTE’S’ NOTICE IF NEEDED
Trump will just get one presidential intelligence briefing a week but says he’s on-call at “one-minute’s” notice if something changes that he must deal with.
“I get it when I need it,” Trump told “Fox News Sunday,” “I’m, like, a smart person. I don’t have to be told the same thing in the same words every single day for the next eight years – could be eight years. … I don’t need that.”
Trump told Fox News he wants to fix EPA.
“EPA, you can’t get things approved. I mean, people are waiting in line for 15 years before they get rejected, okay? That’s why people don’t want to invest in this country,” he said. “… So we’re going to clean it up. We’re going to speed it up and, by the way, if somebody is not doing the right thing we’re not going to approve.”
Trump, who went to a military school in high school, went on to defend his selection of several retired generals for key positions, including secretary of Defense and Homeland Security.
“I like generals. I think generals are terrific, you know? They go through schools and they sort of end up at the top of the pyramid. And it’s like a test. They passed the test of life. … And I like the three that I have very, very much,” he said.
He also said he’s “getting very, very close” to picking a secretary of State nominee, amid indications he’s leaning toward ExxonMobil boss Rex Tillerson.
“He’s much more than a business executive. … He’s a world-class player,” Trump said of Tillerson, without confirming the choice.
Trump also said he hopes federal law will allow his daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner to aid in some of his executive branch duties.
PERFECT! TRUMP’S EPA CHIEF SCOTT PRUITT IS A CLIMATE CHANGE/GLOBAL WARMING SKEPTIC – GREEN WACKOS FREAKING OUT!
( Climate Depot ) Climate sanity has been restored to the U.S. EPA. No longer do we have to hear otherwise intelligent people in charge in DC blather on about how EPA regulations are necessary to control the Earth’s temperature or storminess. See: Huh?! Obama advisor John Podesta claims EPA CO2 regs (which don’t impact global CO2 levels) are needed to combat extreme weather: ‘The risk on the downside you’re seeing every day in the weather’
No longer do we have to endure GOP presidents avoiding battle over the green agenda by picking EPA chiefs that were timid at best. We know how bad GOP EPA picks have been in the past because many former GOP EPA chiefs endorsed President Obama’s EPA climate regulations. See: EPA chiefs who served under Republicans press for climate action
If climate skeptics were worried about Trump’s meeting with Former VP Al Gore earlier this week, the pick of Pruitt is reassuring. Basically Trump listened to what Gore had to say at their New York City meeting and then he exercised his good judgement and did the exact opposite. University of Pennsylvania Geologist Dr. Robert Giegengack has noted, “None of the strategies that have been offered by the U.S. government or by the EPA or by anybody else has the remotest chance of altering climate if in fact climate is controlled by carbon dioxide.”
In layman’s terms: All of the so-called ‘solutions’ to global warming are purely symbolic when it comes to climate. So, even if we actually faced a climate catastrophe and we had to rely on a UN climate agreement, we would all be doomed! (See Keynote Speech by Marc Morano on the case for climate skepticism)
Even the proponents admit these EPA regulations are purely symbolic.
