BRAVE! ROBERT ENGLE: ANTIOCH CHURCH USHER STOPS EMANUEL SAMSON DURING MASS SHOOTING; HOLDS HIM AT GUN POINT
Brave church usher Robert Caleb Engle, 22, stopped the mass shooting at Burnette Chapel Church in Antioch, Tennessee today. Engle had ran up to confront Samson and despite being repeatedly pistol-whipped in the head, was able to force Samson to shoot himself in the chest. When Samson was wounded, Engle then went to his car, grabbed his pistol, and returned to hold the shooter at gunpoint until the police arrived.
He’s being hailed as a hero who risked his own life to stop the gunman, Emanuel Samson. Engle Said in a statement after the shooting: ‘I Pray That Through All of This … People Will Come to Know Christ’
Nashville police chief Steve Anderson said Engle was a hero.
“He’s the hero here, he’s the person who stopped this madness in its tracks.”
‘There was a significant struggle between the two,’ he said. ‘During the struggle, the gunman shot himself, probably not intentionally.’
Melanie Crow Smith, 39, of Smyrna, died and another six were injured when Samson, 25, opened fire. Family members and church parishioners said pastor Joey Spann and his wife Peggy Spann were also both shot. Married mother-of-two Smith died at the scene.
The shooter’s condition is not life-threatening and he is under heavy police guard at Vanderbilt Medical Center.
