- ‘The eight-year assault on your Second Amendment freedoms has come to a crashing end’
( Daily Mail ) President Donald Trump took a high-caliber victory lap on Friday before a crowd of 10,000 gun owners and Second Amendment enthusiasts, telling the National Rifle Association’s annual convention that he would protect ‘the sacred right of self-defense for all of our citizens.’
‘I will never, ever infringe on the right of the people to keep and bear arms,’ Trump boomed in a campaign-style speech in Atlanta. ‘Never ever.’
‘The eight-year assault on your Second Amendment freedoms has come to a crashing end,‘ he boasted, referring to the twilight of his predecessor’s term in office.
‘You have a true friend and champion in the White House.’
…. And in a jab at far-left Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, he said she might be the Democrats’ standard bearer.
Warren has attracted criticism and a nickname – ‘Pocahontas’ – for falsely claiming a Native American heritage in order to secure preferential hiring treatment during her university teaching career.
”No ma’am,’ he imagined they might say instead. ‘Perhaps ma’am. It may be Pocahontas. Remember that. And she is not big for the NRA. That I can tell you.’
Chris Cox, who runs the NRA’s lobbying arm, introduced Trump after country singer Lee Greenwood sang his trademark anthem ‘God Bless the U.S.A.’
