TRUMP ORDERS FEDERAL AGENCIES EXAMINATION AND REORGANIZATION-ELIMINATE DUPLICATES, INEFFICIENT, UNNECESSARY AGENCIES
( Daily Mail ) The president signed a mandate Monday requiring federal agencies to identify wasteful and inefficient programs as part of a reorganization of the executive branch that he says will be ‘very, very special.’
President Trump proclaimed from the Oval Office after his first meeting with all of his confirmed secretaries that he had ‘assembled one of the greatest Cabinets in history’ and is now directing his lieutenants to ‘make their agencies as lean and effective as possible.’
‘They know how to do it. Today there is duplication and redundancy everywhere,’ he stated.
The measure orders the Office of Management and Budget director, Mick Mulvaney, to come up with a proposal ‘eliminate unnecessary agencies…components of agencies and agency programs.’
Agency heads have 180 days to submit efficiency plans to Mulvaney and reorganize ‘if appropriate.’
The public will also have the opportunity to suggest improvements to the executive branch.
After the public comment period, Mulvaney will have 180 days to submit a document to the president, the executive order Trump signed says.
‘The proposed plan shall include, as appropriate, recommendations to eliminate unnecessary agencies, components of agencies, and agency programs, and to merge functions,’ the order reads. ‘The proposed plan shall include recommendations for any legislation or administrative measures necessary to achieve the proposed reorganization.’
