DETROIT (WWJ) – A video posted to YouTube shows a woman being dragged off of a Delta flight at Detroit Metro Airport after she allegedly did not comply with proper boarding procedures.
The two-minute clip — which appeared online Monday, courtesy of the blog RenésPoints — shows passengers craning their necks to look back as uniformed officers pull a woman in a red top down the jet’s narrow center aisle, stopping a couple of times to adjust before they continue. (Note: Video contains mild strong language).
As the woman, flat on her back, passes by the person with the camera, her eyes are closed and she appears unresponsive.
“Oh my God,” one passenger exclaims. Another passenger wonders aloud if a Taser has been used.
According to Erica Donerson, Media Relations Manager for Delta Air Lines, the woman involved was taken into custody following the incident Monday.
“At approximately 8 this morning, Delta Air Lines contacted Detroit Metropolitan Airport’s police department requesting assistance with a passenger who would not comply with boarding and baggage check procedures at a McNamara Terminal gate,” Donerson said, in a statement sent by email to WWJ Newsradio 950.
“When officers arrived, Delta Air Lines stated the woman could not remain on board. Despite repeated requests by officers, the woman refused to leave the aircraft and had to be removed. She was arrested and charges are pending.”
In unconfirmed reports posted at Airlive.net, a witness described the woman as “mouthy” with “a huge attitude,” adding that she was tackled and brought to the ground by police after she “blew by the gate agent without checking in.”
The video does not show this, however, beginning only when the woman is already on the floor.
According to Delta spokesman Anthony Black, the incident only briefly delayed the nonstop flight, that departed Detroit Metro bound for San Diego, California at 8:30 a.m. Monday. The flight arrived in San Diego at 10:38 a.m. PST, according to the airline.
It’s unclear at this time if the woman was injured. No details were immediately provided about how exactly or why the woman did not comply.
WWJ has a call out to police for further comment.
